Nuno Loreiro: Art + Tech x Cosmos =

Escola das Artes | AIP Blackbox | UCP | Campus do Porto

On May 14 at 8:00 PM, the School of Arts will host artist Nuno Loureiro for a Dashed Concert. On the same day, prior to the concert, João Melo will lead a lecture titled Along the Vein.

Nuno Loureiro is a producer, multi-instrumentalist, and sound artist from Porto. His commitment to experimentation—whether through computers, the Octatrack, or modular synthesizers—means his sound is constantly evolving. Rooted in his interest in DSP technologies from the 1990s to the 2010s, his process-oriented approach leads him to build sampling systems that fuel his practice.

This approach comes to life in "Lua Onus" (2023), his debut release under his own name on the Superpang label. Finding technical affinity among online computer music forums, Loureiro modifies this sonic DNA, not limiting himself to any particular sound palette. His material is recorded with whatever is at hand, directly feeding systems where control and randomness interact, resulting in a captivating blend of post-human algorithmic tricks and a pseudo-LoFi patina.

His practice extends to the web/multimedia, creating experiences that go beyond pre-made formats. For gnration, he developed Lua Tua (luatua.nunoloureiro.xyz), an environment operated entirely within the browser, inspired by his experiments with neural networks reinterpreting Lua Onus. An online piece that combines p5.js and Hydra for visuals and Pure Data/webpd for real-time sound synthesis.

Nuno Loureiro has presented his work at prominent venues and festivals such as Cafe Oto, Meakusma, Gnration, Lux, Semibreve, Serralves, and Tremor. An artist with an extensive touring schedule, he performs both as a solo artist and with his projects: TNL, Solar Corona, Fugly, and Milteto. Notable collaborations in recent years include his work with Pedro Huet and Richie Culver. Loureiro hosts “reza clunx schemes,” a monthly radio program on CAMP Radio, an independent station operated by an artist residency in the Pyrenees.

Art + Tech x Cosmos =

The program brings together artists, creative technologists, curators, writers, and thinkers whose contributions span a range of thematic constellations: from the spiritual and the mythical, to socio-technological infrastructures and (de)colonial logics, to speculative futures. Through these contributions, the program explores the potential to reshape how we think about human and non-human creativity, how we experience the convergence of art and technology, and how their imaginative possibilities can inspire new cultural practices and worlds. Curated by Joasia Krysa, Nuno Crespo, Daniel Ribas, and José Alberto Gomes.
