CATÓLICA-LISBON organises the next Knowledge @CatolicaLisbon Digital Conference on January 20, at 5 p.m., with the theme "Deep Learning".
The popularity of Deep Learning has been growing rapidly, with many applications changing our daily lives. This seminar opens with a description of how neural nets are used to achieve state-of-the-art performance in a range of supervised learning applications such as image and speech recognition. Then the seminar will deep-dive into one upcoming branch of learning algorithms: Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL). DRL has successfully been applied in computer games and robotics, but its potential in other domains remains underexplored.
In this seminar, a high-level introduction to DRL will be provided and showed how it can be applied in three classic and intractable inventory problems. The discussed study provides evidence that DRL can solve inventory problems, which is especially promising when problem-dependent heuristics are lacking. It effectively serves as a general-purpose technology that can solve a diversity of problems without relying on extensive domain knowledge. The seminar will close with a discussion and roadmap on how to improve the adoption of DRL in practice.
Watch the conference live on the CATÓLICA-LISBON Facebook and Linkedin page.
