This Thursday, June 9, at 14h30, the event "The issue of Islamophobia in Portugal" hosted by Research Centre for Communication and Culture (CECC), from the Faculty of Human Sciences, UCP, will take place.
The debate, conducted in a hybrid format and in English, will discuss the ongoing research project, with the same name, which proposes to reflect on the notion of "Islamophobia" as an "object of discourse", product and producer of social reality.
The project is part of the transnational study "Media and Scholarly Islamophobia: a transnational study of discourses and their impact" directed by the anthropologist Abdelwahed Mekki-Berrada, Universidade de Laval, which interrogates the notion of "Islamophobia" and analyses its discursive manifestations in France, Belgium, Switzerland, Canada, Portugal and Spain.
This event will present the results of the first stage of the study on Islamophobia in the Portuguese media field based on the discursive analysis of the main national newspapers, developed by a team from CEEC, together with anthropologists from the Network Centre for Research in Anthropology, NOVA University, coordinated by Camila Arêas and José Mapril, respectively.
