Tuesday, May 20, 2025 - 11:15
Sala Porsche | UCP | Centro Regional do Porto
As part of the International Studies Programme, public lectures are held for the community with guest speakers who address specific topics related to International and European Law and International Relations.
With a diverse range of speakers from various personal and professional backgrounds, the ISP Dialogues promote and encourage critical thinking, interdisciplinary perspectives, and a comprehensive, humanistic approach to both International and European Law and International Relations.
At the next ISP Dialogues session, we will welcome Helena Sousa, President of the Portuguese Regulatory Authority for the Media (ERC), who will share her perspective on the topic “Regulatory Challenges”.
Synopsis:
The evolving media landscape presents new and pressing regulatory challenges.
Media regulators must adapt to the digital transformation that has affected the sector in recent decades, with new global players and issues emerging. This means strengthening its resources and legal powers, as well as developing new skills.
At the same time, it must address a national media sector that has faced a long-standing structural crisis and is struggling to find sustainability.
Regulatory action is required to safeguard the quality of media content offered to citizens, particularly journalism, without undermining the business models of the organisations it supervises.
Admission is free, subject to room capacity.
