Innovation & Local Development Seminar: "Valongo: Growing between Green and Blue"

The Cycle of Innovation & Local Development Seminars of the CESOP-Local Municipal Observatory of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa begins on January 27, at 3 p.m., with the Municipality of Valongo, Winner of the Green Leaf Awards 2022 of the European Commission and Member of Excellence of the CESOP-Local Network since 2017.

Under the theme "Valongo: Growing between Green and Blue", the Seminar presents the Good Practice "Leça River Corridor Recovery Project" in favour of the Sustainable Development Goals 6-11-13-15 of the 2030 Agenda.

The session will have the participation of the Mayor of Valongo, José Manuel Ribeiro, the invited expert architect Laura Roldão, Professor and Researcher at the Universidade de Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro in the areas of urban forestry and landscape design and enhancement, and the Environmental Engineer Gisela Martins, Head of Environment Division of the Municipality of Valongo, with the moderation of the Director of Católica-CESOP, Professor Ricardo F. Reis, followed by a debate.

The session will be broadcast live via the Católica-CESOP YouTube Channel.

An occasion to reflect on the importance of soil decontamination and ecological rehabilitation using natural engineering techniques, the participation and empowerment of the population for the needs of adaptation to climate change in the urban environment, and the promotion of biodiversity and environmental and sustainable urban mobility in our daily lives, in a framework of decarbonisation of social and economic activities.
