Inauguration of the Exhibition O Roxo e as Cinzas

Thursday, February 13, 2020 - 18:00 - Thursday, February 13, 2020 - 19:00

Fundação Amélia de Mello | UCP | Lisboa - Sede

The inauguration of the Exhibition O Roxo e as Cinzas, curated by João Norton, will take place at the Amélia de Mello Foundation Gallery, on the ground floor of the Portuguese Catholic University Library Building.

This exhibition explores the field of sensations and meanings opened by works of art marked by the color purple and the matter of ashes, bringing together works of art in their autonomy with others of Christian tradition and even with a liturgical function.

These approaches, entrusted from the outset to sensitive intuition, and prior to the theoretical density of the problem, are offered in mutual percetual and spiritual resonances.

The color purple, derived from purple, a coloring substance extracted from certain snails (murex), is a hybrid color, covers a range of shades between red and blue, invites to recollection and for its great value was reserved for worship and garments of greater dignity. In turn, the ashes result from the matter consumed by fire, including the unconsummable rest of the human body, so they connote in various cultures the ephemeral, the valueless and the mourning.

Inauguration: November 13th | 6:00 pm

Opening Hours: Monday to Friday | 9h00 am - 6h00 pm | Free Entrance

We count on your presence for the inauguration of this exhibition!
