According to the Global Compact on Education

Who is it aimed at?

To all professors, researchers and students of Master or Doctorate programmes who are already working or who want to know more about the Service-Learning methodology. This is a teaching methodology that combines academic learning with service to the community so that students are trained personally and professionally by working with the real needs of the community.

This Symposium, in an online format, will bring together Universities from all over the world, in a new global and multicultural event of experience sharing experiences and debating research results on the spiritual dimension of service-learning and its contribution to the identity and mission of Higher Education Institutions.

Additional Information

Universidade Católica Portuguesa (UCP) is one of 20 institutions worldwide selected to be supported in an innovative teaching methodology aimed at educating committed citizens.

UCP has been selected to join the UNISERVITATE Programme, a global and networked programme that aims to generate systemic change in Catholic Higher Education Institutions through the institutionalisation of the Service-Learning methodology.

In the framework of UNISERVITATE, an agreement was signed between the Latin American Centre for Learning and Solidarity Service (CLAYSS), the University of Deusto and UCP to develop a support programme, for at least 2 years, to promote institutionalisation processes of Service-Learning. This programme complements the CApS project - Catholic University and Service-Learning: Innovation and Social Responsibility - that started in 2020, and that already this semester is applying the methodology in curricular units (UC) and an extracurricular activity in the 4 campi of UCPl: Braga, Lisboa, Porto and Viseu.

With this programme, UCP, together with the other Catholic Institutions of Higher Education around the world, hopes to cooperate as a partner and be part of an international network focused on educational and scientific quality, in close relationship with its social impact.

UCP is a pioneer in Portugal in the process of institutionalisation of the Service-Learning methodology.
