2025 marked the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi concentration camps.
To commemorate this historical milestone, the D. José Pedro da Silva Library is hosting, from April 20 to June 30, 2026, a photography exhibition entitled “Sombras da Humanidade: Um Olhar sobre os Campos de Concentração Nazis”, by Jorge Adolfo M. Marques. The exhibition, on display on the first floor of the Library, can be visited from Monday to Friday, between 8:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., and from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
This exhibition, which reveals—within the vastness of a profound silence—the harsh reality of the concentration camps of Auschwitz-Birkenau and Majdanek, stands above all as a powerful testimony to a past marked by deep significance, from which many silenced stories and countless memories continue to echo over time.
In conjunction with the exhibition, a bibliographic display on the same theme is also presented, available for consultation to illustrate and complement the universe depicted in the photographs.
The exhibition is free of charge and open to both the academic community and the general public, promoting inclusive access to art and culture.
