Exhibition Guido Guidi: Shadow Hunter

Tuesday, October 15, 2019 - 18:30 - Friday, December 13, 2019 - 18:30

Escola das Artes | UCP | Centro Regional do Porto

Presenting itself as a strategy of decentralization of the gaze, in a period in which the city of Porto seems to have entered a phase of profound transformations fostered by urban tourism, Guido Guidi's photographic survey constitutes a journey through the peripheries and urban limits, including the hidden centre, which is not registered in the postcards representing the city.

A centralised and normative look at the remarkable buildings, although reassuring, does not respond to the strategic needs of the contemporary city and the prospective vision it needs. In this way, attention is diverted from the well-identified centre to the increasingly tenuous and undefined limits.

The title found of this exhibition: shadow hunter, happens halfway between the gesture of fixing the shadows on the photographic film that seems to describe and the name of a fantasy character from a graffiti TV series on a city wall. It's an accident, a chance, that gives meaning to the events that precede it; that makes the story that seems to tell happen and builds the conflicts and paradoxes that travel and make a little more sensitive. Focused on recombined and pluritemporal places, Guido Guidi's gaze is a silent mirror that gives us back some urban limits made invisible by everyday life.
