Dashed Concerts: O Pior Homem de Londres

On February 27, at 6:30 p.m., School of Arts will host a screening of The Worst Man in London, a film by Rodrigo Areias, accompanied by a live string trio featuring Samuel Martins Coelho, Pedro Oliveira and Carina Albuquerque.
This Film-Concert will be the first Dashed Concert of 2025, an integral part of this year's Program of Concerts, Conferences, Exhibitions and Performances, The Foreigner.
The Worst Man in London, directed by Rodrigo Areias, is set in Victorian London, amidst the artistic community and the political conspiracy, and features a man with an adventurous spirit and great wit: Charles Augustus Howell, born in Porto to a Portuguese mother and an English father, an agent for great artists and art dealers, a secret agent and a master of blackmail.
Rodrigo Areias (1978)
A Portuguese filmmaker, he studied art in Porto and did a specialization course in New York.
Throughout his career, he has developed creative work in the field of auteur cinema in fiction and documentary, alternating with other work in the fields of video art and video clips for some of the best names in the Portuguese rock scene (The Legendary Tiger Man, Wray Gunn, Mão Morta, Sean Riley, D3o, etc.) and various other projects.
He is currently mostly known for his work as a producer and director, known for his work as a director on The Worst Man in London (2024), Hálito Azul (2018) and 3x3D (2013).
Samuel Martins Coelho (1980)
With a background in classical music, he has developed his own language, using a variety of sound sources.
He crosses several genres and musical universes, from classical music to conceptual music, experimental and improvisation.
He is part of several projects, such as: Samuel Martins Coelho, EL RUPE Estranhofone, Pata física, among others.
In recent years he has collaborated as musical director, composer and instrumentalist with theater companies such as Máquina Agradável, Teatro Experimental do Port and Comédias do Minho. Teatro Oficina.
Pedro Oliveira
Born in 1991, the Portuguese-Canadian violinist Pedro Oliveira divides his professional activity between pedagogy and musical performance.
Since 2015, when he obtained his master's degree in music performance from the Royal Conservatoire of Mons (BE), Pedro has been working continuously in the field of chamber music, particularly his regular collaboration with the production company Musicamera (Lopes-Graça Quartet) and the creation of projects such as the Nimy Quartet, and orchestral music, collaborating regularly with orchestras such as Orquestra Guimarães, Sinfonietta de Braga (occasionally as concertmaster) and as a reinforcement in the Academic Orchestra of the University of Minho (as concertmaster).
At the same time, Pedro was a guest assistant in the music department at the University of Minho for four years, teaching instrument lessons, chamber music and performance techniques and repertoire.
