This study assessed the safety of cork–polypropylene composites for food contact by incorporating 15% cork granules and analysing migration behaviour using food simulants. Advanced analytical techniques (GC-MS, LC-MS) showed no increase in known polypropylene migrants and no detectable cork-specific substances. Furfural was identified as a processing-related NIAS. The findings support the safe and sustainable use of cork in plastic food contact materials and reinforce the need for case-by-case assessments of plant-based additives.
