The next CEGE4ALL: Markets & Policy Seminar by Patrícia Oliveira-Silva (Faculty of Education and Psychology, UCP), on “The Neuro-Behavioural Lens: Understanding human behaviour across markets, services and sustainable systems” will take place on May 14th, between 11.30 am and 12.30 pm in room EAA001.

Patrícia Oliveira Silva has a background in Biological Sciences, with a specialization in Human Neurophysiology. She completed her PhD in Clinical. She is the director of the Human Neurobehavioral Laboratory (HNL) and the Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Education and Psychology at Católica Porto, with responsibility for Global Positioning. The main focus of her research is the exploration of interactions between psychological and neurophysiological processes, applying neuroscience methods, predominantly psychophysiological peripheral measures, to a wide spectrum of social behaviors and clinical conditions, including empathic responding, emotion regulation, pro environmental behavior, and dementias. She is also strongly committed to interdisciplinary research and actively advocates the importance of internationalization of higher education, open science and strategic partnerships with industry.

Abstract

"The Neuro-Behavioural Lens is introduced in this presentation not as an invitation to bring our research groups into closer dialogue and to explore synergies that can strengthen interdisciplinary work across the institution.

We will share some of the work we’ve been developing at the Human Neurobehavioral Laboratory (HNL), offering a perspective on how behavioural and neuropsychological approaches can deepen our understanding of human decision-making, cognitive and affective experiences and performance in complex contexts.

Over the past decade, the laboratory has developed a strong interdisciplinary trajectory, engaging more than 500 students and collaborating with a diverse network of partners across academic, clinical and applied settings.

Policies, services and organisational systems are often designed based on assumptions about human behaviour. At HNL, we look at behaviour beyond what people say, or even consciously recognise, by bringing together subjective perception, observable action and underlying neurophysiological signals that are not always accessible to individuals or easily captured by traditional methods. Drawing on studies across areas such as decision-making under stress, social and empathic processes, and performance in complex environments, this presentation outlines a methodological approach that integrates behavioural paradigms, psychophysiological measures and experimental designs to study behaviour as it unfolds in context."
