Católica Sustainability Week 2025

From November 24th to 28th, the Universidade Católica Portuguesa is promoting the 1st Edition of Sustainability Week, an initiative that aims to raise awareness among the academic community of the 4 campuses about the environmental and social challenges of our time. November 24th

11:30 a.m.: Conference on Fundamentals for Integral Sustainability
This conference, promoted by the Faculty of Theology and coordinated by Prof. Isabel Varanda, aims to encourage reflection on the foundations of integral sustainability, inspired by the concept of integral ecology presented by Pope Francis in his encyclical Laudato si'. The goal is to share philosophical, theological, and ethical criteria that can contribute to a more critical and informed understanding of sustainability. The aim is to open space for questioning and for building a coherent foundation capable of guiding concrete measures and actions in favour of a more sustainable world.

November 25th

09:30 a.m.: Presentation of the results of the Católica Braga study: How are we doing in terms of sustainability?
To build a more sustainable and conscious campus, we want to know how this commitment is perceived and how we can improve.

10:00 a.m.: Workshop ‘be@t – Bioeconomy in the Textile Industry’
This demonstration workshop will focus on the principles of the bioeconomy applied to the textile industry and the results developed within the scope of the be@t project.

November 26th

09:30 a.m.: Integral Conference Ecology in Action: From Reflection to Commitment
This conference aims to integrate the scientific, ethical, and spiritual dimensions of Integral Ecology, inspired by the Encyclical Laudato Si’, especially the concept of Integral Ecology and the Ignatian tradition. The initiative includes a central hybrid workshop, thematic panels, an interactive exhibition, and an ecumenical closing celebration. Participants will be invited to develop micro-projects on sustainability and justice to be implemented on the three campi of the Católica.

November 27th

11:00 a.m.: Food Workshop: Reusing for Sustainability
This workshop, in partnership with ProVeg, a food awareness organisation working towards a fairer, more sustainable and balanced food system, aims to impact the community and contribute to new food offerings by teaching people how to reuse food in a tasty, healthy and sustainable way.

12:00 p.m.: Presentation of the results of the Renovar é Sustentar Competition
Mobilise the academic community to propose creative and sustainable ideas for renovating the interior and exterior spaces of the Braga campus, promoting well-being, functionality and integration with nature.

An outdoor sporting activity.

General Objectives:
• Promote the physical well-being of the community through outdoor activities.

• Contribute to physical, mental, social, and emotional well-being.
