Open Applications for students in the Transform4Europe Sustainable Heritage Workshop in Lithuania

From 28 September to 2 October 2026, the city of Kaunas, Lithuania, will host the Transform4Europe Sustainable Heritage Workshop, an initiative organised by Vytautas Magnus University within the framework of the Erasmus + Blended Intensive Programme (BIP).

Aimed at students with an interest in history, art and museum studies, the workshop offers an opportunity to reflect on the role of culture and heritage in contexts of conflict and geopolitical instability.

Against a backdrop market by Russia's war against Ukraine and other international crises, the initiative explores the impact of conflicts and hybrid threats on culture, heritage and collective memory. Cultural heritage is examined not only as a target of destruction, but also as a vital instrument of resilience and social reconstruction.

Throughout the programme, participants will have the opportunity to explore how cultural responses contribute to heritage-making and to strengthening community resilience through the analysis of both historical and contemporary case studies.

Activities will take place at the Kaunas Ninth Fort Museum, a memorial site dedicated to the victims of Nazi crimes and other forms of wartime violence. The programme also includes collaborative work on practical challenges proposed by the museum, with guidance from experts in the field.

The workshop will bring together students, researchers and professionals from different countries across the Transform4Europe Alliance, providing an international learning experience and opportunities for knowledge exchange.

Applications are open until 19 July and the results will be announced on 27 July. For further information, please contact: t4eu@ucp.pt.
