Católica leads the SDG 16 by Times Higher Education in Portugal

The Universidade Católica Portuguesa reached the 1st place in Portugal in the Sustainable Development Goal 16 (SDG 16) - "Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions" - of the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2020 and ranking 55th in the world.

SDG 16 aims to promote a peaceful and inclusive society, with universal access to justice and effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels. This goal is one of 17 Sustainable Development Goals in the United Nations Agenda 2030.

This positive result of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa comes from policies and initiatives that have been developed between 2016 and 2019, among which we highlight:

  • A Code of Ethics and Conduct for the entire University in force since January 2016.
  • Signing of a Public Commitment to a Zero Tolerance Policy against the abuse and mistreatment of vulnerable minors and adults in May 2019, as well as the implementation of a University-wide Care and Good Treatment System.
  • Signature of the UN Global Compact Anti-Corruption Letter in December 2019, becoming the only Portuguese university to sign and an integral member of the 66 Portuguese organisations that receive the Anti-Corruption seal.
  • Study on Tax Benefits, prepared for the Ministry of Finance by the Católica Porto Business School, whose results were presented in May 2019.
  • Study conducted for the Ministry of Health. Working Group of the European Association for Palliative Care.
  • Collaboration in the "Aprendizagem Para Todos" project of the World Bank for the Ministry of Education of the Government of Angola.
  • The CESOP-Local project, whose mission is to carry out applied studies in administrative territories, with reference to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and the 169 goals contained in Agenda 2030.
