Catarina Santos Botelho appointed member of the Management Board of the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights

Catarina Santos Botelho, faculty member and coordinator of Constitutional Law at the Porto Faculty of Law, has just been appointed Member of the Management Board of the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA), a leading centre for the protection and promotion of human rights within the European area.

The Management Board of the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights is composed of independent experts appointed by each EU Member State, along with a representative of the Council of Europe and two representatives of the European Commission. It is responsible for setting the Agency’s priorities, approving work programmes and budgets, and monitoring their implementation. Furthermore, it ensures that the Agency’s work is relevant, independent, and aligned with EU policy on fundamental rights.

With a solid and internationally recognised academic career, Catarina Santos Botelho has dedicated her research to constitutional theory and philosophy of law, comparative constitutional studies, constitutional justice, human rights, democracy, separation of powers, intergenerational justice, and digital constitutionalism.
