The next initiative of the Laudato si' Year takes place in partnership with the Portuguese Cáritas, which brings to us the Brazilian Cáritas. In the Cáritas Network, the Social Solidarity Economy (EPS) is an important articulation that integrates field, forest and city in the construction of alternatives that generate collective and self-management processes, aiming the social and productive inclusion of vulnerable people and families affected by poverty and difficult access to the labour market.
It is a strategy of territorial development, sustainable and solidary based on the collective organization of workers with an interest in improving the quality of life through labour relations, through associations, cooperatives, networks or even informal groups. It is a way to combat the inequalities of the current economic system and to build another model of development, based on the involvement of people for the good of life. It is also a vehicle for building knowledge about local realities, human, social and economic rights, as well as being an instrument for broadening critical awareness and fostering citizen participation.
For more than 35 years, Cáritas Brasil has promoted and supported several EPS initiatives throughout the country. Approximately 600 Cáritas agents from 176 member entities accompany enterprises formed by young people, cultural groups, collectors, women, people in street situations, rural and urban populations, migrants, communities at risk, etc.
The session will be led by Sister Lourdes Dill who is part of the coordination of the Solidarity Economy Network of the Brazilian Cáritas.
Registration is free and available here.
