Scoping reviews are particularly valuable for mapping emerging, heterogeneous and conceptually fragmented fields. Drawing on a submitted review of compassionate leadership in educational contexts, this Learning Coffee offers a practical account of the review process: from defining the research question and eligibility criteria to database searching, screening, data charting and thematic synthesis. It also reflects methodological decisions, challenges, and lessons learned, showing how a scoping review can both produce a publishable study and help shape the next stages of doctoral research.
