Línguas de Camões – Challenges and Opportunities for Portuguese as a Foreign Language in a Global World is a colloquium and continuous training action promoted by the Faculty of Human Sciences, which will take place on september 25, in online format.

This one-day event focuses on the importance of learning Portuguese as a foreign language and encourages critical reflection about the place and role of this language in a global world.

This colloquium is a joint initiative of the Undergraduate Program in Applied Foreign Languages and the Master Program in Portuguese as a Foreign Language/ Second Language and it seeks to disseminate research and teaching practice developed in the Faculty of Human Sciences.

The plenary session will be with Roberto Vecchi, from Università di Bologna.

  • Gosto de ser e de estar: linguistics and teaching Portuguese as a foreign language;
  • Eu quero frátria: Portuguese Language, Literature and Culture;
  • O que quer esta língua? Best practice in Portuguese as a foreign language class;
  • O que pode esta língua? Portuguese, language of opportunities in the world.

Book launch "Era uma vez a tradução"

The Research Centre for Communication and Culture (CECC) and Universidade Católica Editora organise the launch of the book Era Uma vez a Tradução, a collection of essays on the history of translation organised by professors and researchers Maria Lin Moniz, Isabel Capeloa Gil and Alexandra Lopes.

The book presentation session will be directed by Professor Luísa Leal de Faria and will take place on March 8, at 6 p.m.

Um conjunto de investigadores está a dar passos importantes no futuro da neuroreabilitação.

Miguel Pais-Vieira e Carla Pais-Vieira, do Instituto de Ciências da Saúde da Universidade Católica Portuguesa, no Porto, está a desenvolver um projeto pioneiro com Mehrab Khazraei e André Perrota, do Centro de Investigação em Ciência e Tecnologia das Artes (CITAR): um par de pernas robóticas que podem ser controladas diretamente pela atividade cerebral do utilizador. 

A técnica é complementada com realidade virtual e feedback tátil e térmico.

Radio Soundscapes in (Post)Colonial Settings

The Research Centre for Communication and Culture (CECC), Faculty of Human Sciences, Universidade Católica Portuguesa, organizes the 2022 International Conference "Radio Soundscapes in (Post)Colonial Settings", which takes place from 7 to 8 July.

The conference integrates work developed by CECC under the research project BiPE: Broadcasting in the Portuguese Empire, and aims to bring together scholars researching the history of colonial and postcolonial broadcasting and sound, in order to shed light on the role of radio and music in forging audible and sonorous empires and new-born nations. The event will include papers that discuss technologies, programmes and audiences in both colonial and postcolonial settings, including those focusing on the construction of new soundscapes and radio ecosystems following decolonization.
