Vice-Rector of Católica moderates debate on the future of books

Peter Hanenberg, Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, will moderate the debate "The Book is Dead. Long Live the Book!", which will take place on March 30, starting at 7 p.m. at the Goethe-Institut, in Lisboa.

Gerhard Lauer and Isabel Alçada are the guest speakers of this 1st session of the cycle of conversations "The future of knowledge", organised by the Católica and the Goethe-Institut.

What changes will digitisation bring to the world of books and reading? What are young and old reading, how are publishers and bookshops dealing with digital challenges, and what new paths are being blazed by digital platforms? These are some of the questions that the speakers will seek to answer in this conversation dedicated to the future of reading and books.

Besides being Vice-Rector of Católica, Peter Hanenberg, responsible for moderating the session, is also Dean of the Católica Doctoral School and researcher and coordinator of the Research Centre for Communication and Culture. European literature and culture since the 16th century, the idea of Europe and its representation, as well as the dialogue between Cognitive Sciences and Cultural Studies, are his main research areas.

Gerhard Lauer works at the Gutenberg Institute of World Literature at Mainz University and focuses his research on reading in the digital era.

Isabel Alçada, also present at the session, is a writer and former Minister of Education. The speaker was also responsible for coordinating the working group that developed the school libraries network and commissioner of the National Reading Plan.
