Universidade Católica Portuguesa strengthens partnership with Fundação Amélia de Mello

Universidade Católica Portuguesa (UCP) and Fundação Amélia de Mello (FAM) signed a protocol on 22 September, with the main purpose of reinforcing the Foundation’s ongoing support for higher education and training provided by the University, with particular emphasis on international-level knowledge creation, social innovation, impact philanthropy, and social investment.

This partnership between the two entities, now reinforced and in force for another four years, dates back to 1967, when Universidade Católica Portuguesa was founded, making Fundação Amélia de Mello one of the most important patrons of Católica, present at the most significant moments in the University's history.

According to Isabel Capeloa Gil, President of Católica, ‘this agreement allows us to extend a long-standing relationship, adapting it to the new development needs of UCP and reflecting the Foundation's vocation for intervention in the field of education and social responsibility.’

Vasco de Mello, President of Fundação Amélia de Mello, also says that ‘collaboration with educational institutions that practise teaching excellence deserves special attention, and Universidade Católica Portuguesa is an excellent example of this.’

This new protocol, in addition to securing scholarships for students of recognised academic merit but without the financial resources to complete their bachelor's, master's or doctoral degrees in various faculties of the Universidade Católica, also provides support for the ‘Cátedra Alfredo da Silva’ (Alfredo da Silva Chair), as well as sponsorship of conferences, among other initiatives.
