João Costa Amado Last Lecture on Caring for Caring

Community Health: Caring for caring – From pre-conception to post mortem: the course of a path" was the theme chosen by João Costa Amado, professor at Universidade Católica Portuguesa, for his last lecture that took place on October 16 at the Carvalho Guerra Auditorium, at Universidade Católica Portuguesa.

In a relaxed but reflective atmosphere, João Neves Amado, also a professor at Católica, opened the event by highlighting the main professional and personal moments of the honoree.

Throughout the class, João Costa Amado spoke about caring for care and the teaching activity he developed outside and at Católica. "Professionally, it was for the students I lived, with colleagues from the institution where I worked: those from Community Health and those from the former Institute of Health Sciences, now the Faculty of Health Sciences and Nursing and the School of Nursing (Porto). All: directors, peers ["equals"], any other employees, with a degree or not, qualified or undifferentiated." At the end of the class, he left a reflection: "Taking care of caring, wants to center us, umbilize us, therefore, on the axis of life: because I am because we are."

Among those present were Isabel Capeloa Gil, rector of Universidade Católica Portuguesa, Isabel Braga da Cruz, pro-rector of Universidade Católica Portuguesa, as well as colleagues, friends, family, and alumni who joined to honor both the life and professional career of the professor.

The moment was marked by a feeling of reunion and celebration, where João Costa Amado felt the gratitude of being among those who, throughout his life, accompanied him and shared the commitments and challenges of life. This moment was not only a last class, but also an opportunity to reflect on caring, emphasizing the path of a lifetime.
