The CBQF/LAE Research Seminar "Research Activities Developed by the Laboratory of Ecophysiology Applied to Agriculture - LECA" with Marcelo de Almeida Silva, from the Faculty of Agronomic Sciences/UNESP (Faculdade Estadual Paulista), will take place on 27 November at 2.30pm in the Arménio Miranda Auditorium in the Biotechnology Building.

Presentation summary

The Laboratory of Ecophysiology Applied to Agriculture - LECA is based in the Department of Plant Production of the Faculty of Agronomic Sciences of the São Paulo State University (UNESP), in Botucatu, São Paulo state, Brazil. Our research group carries out studies on the Ecophysiology of the Production of Major Crops of Agricultural Interest, based on trials that relate soil and climate factors to plant production. In field, greenhouse and/or laboratory activities, we carry out physiological, biochemical and nutritional analyses with the aim of investigating the possible relationships between biotic and abiotic factors in plant growth, development and productivity. Specifically, the lines of research addressed by LECA are Phytotechnology; Plant physiology; Agricultural management and production; Ecophysiology of agricultural production; Plant regulators; Bioinputs, and Physiology of abiotic stress. The team currently consists of the coordinator, Prof Dr Marcelo de Almeida Silva, two post-doctoral supervisors, six doctoral students and three master's students, as well as undergraduate students.

Pequena nota biográfica

Prof. Marcelo de Almeida Silva possui graduação em Agronomia pela Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho (UNESP), Mestrado e Doutorado em Agronomia (Agricultura) pela mesma instituição. Realizou Pós-doutoramento em Fisiologia e Melhoramento da Cana-de-açúcar na Texas A & M University (2006-2007). Trabalhou na Copersucar com Melhoramento da cana-de-açúcar (1988-1990). Foi pesquisador científico do Instituto Agronômico de Campinas (1994-2002), tendo atuado no Programa de Melhoramento do Centro de Cana - IAC. Foi pesquisador científico da Agência Paulista de Tecnologia dos Agronegócios - APTA (2002-2011), onde trabalhou com Melhoramento e Fisiologia da Cana-de-açúcar. Atualmente é Professor Associado na Faculdade de Ciências Agronômicas da UNESP em Botucatu-SP, e ministra aulas na Graduação e Pós-graduação com ênfase em Ecofisiologia da Produção Agrícola. É bolsista 1B de Produtividade em Pesquisa do CNPq. Atua principalmente nos seguintes temas: Grandes Culturas como Cana-de-açúcar, Soja, Feijão e Milho; Fisiologia da Produção Agrícola; Deficiência Hídrica; Bioinsumos; Reguladores e Bioestimulantes Vegetais.
