CARE - Isabel Capeloa Gil

Isabel Capeloa Gil

Full Professor of Culture Studies and the current Rector of UCP – Catholic University of Portugal. She holds a B.A. in Modern Languages and Literatures from the University of Lisbon (1987), and an M.A. in German Studies from the same university (1992), as well as a PhD in German Language and Culture from UCP (2001). She was Guest Professor in Germany (Saarbruecken, Munich), United Kingdom, Ireland (National University of Ireland), Italy (Univ. Ca Foscari, Venice), in Brasil (PUC-Rio) and in the USA (U. Pennsilvania and U. Stanford). She is furthermore an Honorary Fellow at the School of Advanced Studies of the University of London. From 2005 to 2012 she was the Dean of the Faculty of Human Sciences at the UCP. She has held numerous visiting professorships at universities in the U.S., Germany, Brazil, Italy, Ireland and Wales. She was a founder of The Lisbon Consortium network and leads the International Doctoral Degree Program in Culture Studies. She is also a senior researcher and founder of the Research Centre for Communication and Culture.


CARE - Peter Hanenberg

Peter Hanenberg

Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation, Director of Católica Doctoral School (CADOS). PhD in Modern Languages and Literatures from the University of Bamberg, Germany, in 1993, since 2006 Associate Professor at FCH. From 1988 to 1995 assistant professor at the University of Bamberg and between 1995 and 2006 coordinator of German Studies at the Faculty of Letters of UCP in Viseu. President of the Portuguese German Studies Association (APEG) 2006-2010. Member of the Research Centre for Communication and Culture (CECC) which he coordinates since 2012. 2016-2019 Vice-dean of FCH. His research is dedicated to European literature and culture since the 16th century, the idea of Europe and its representation as well as the intersection of Cognitive Sciences and Culture Studies.


CARE - Miguel Athayde Marques

Miguel Athayde Marques

Vice-rector of Universidade Católica Portuguesa and professor of Management at Católica Lisbon Scholl of Business & Economics. He holds a Doctorate (Ph.D) in Management by the University of Glasgow – School of Financial Studies and a Degree in Management by Universidade Católica Portuguesa.

Currently he is the Vice-Chairman of Galp Energia S.A. and a Non-executive Director of Brisa, CR, S.A.
In the past he has been President of the Portuguese Stock Exchange – Euronext Lisbon S.A. and of Interbolsa S.A. and Executive Director of Euronext NV (Stock Exchanges of Amsterdam, Brussels, Lisbon and Paris and Liffe – London Derivatives Exchange). He has been a member of the Executive Committee of New York Stock Exchange (NYSE Euronext). Previously he had been Executive Director of Caixa Geral de Depósitos S. A., member of the Executive Committe of Jerónimo Martins, SGPS, S.A. and Chairman of ICEP – Investimentos, Comércio e Turismo de Portugal. He has been a visiting professor in Business schools in the United Kingdom and in the Popular Republic of China, in Beijing.


CARE_Marlene Barros

Marlene Barros

Professora Catedrática da Universidade Católica Portuguesa é licenciada em Biologia e doutorada em Bioquímica, especialidade de Enzimologia pela Universidade de Coimbra e realizou em 2007 na Universidade de Aveiro as Provas de Agregação em Biologia.

Em 1982 Inicia a carreira na Universidade de Aveiro, Departamento de Biologia. Coordenou o Mestrado em Microbiologia Molecular na mesma Universidade. Lecionou no Mestrado em Experimentação Animal da Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de Coimbra.

Em 2001 integra a Universidade Católica Portuguesa como responsável pelas Ciências Básicas do curso de Medicina Dentária em Viseu. Leciona na UCP as UC de Biologia Celular, Bioquímica Estrutural e Imunobiologia.

Em 2009 cria a Licenciatura em Ciências Biomédicas, sendo coordenadora até ao presente. Em 2010 foi Diretora-Adjunta do Departamento de Ciências da Saúde da UCP. Desde 2015 é Diretora Regional do Instituto de Ciências da Saúde em Viseu.

É Diretora do Centro de Investigação Interdisciplinar em Saúde (CIIS) da UCP desde 2015.

O atual interesse de investigação centra-se na integração da informação sobre proteínas tendo como objetivo principal esclarecer mecanismos moleculares de doenças e identificar biomarcadores uteis para diagnóstico, ou como alvos terapêuticos.

Está particularmente interessada no diagnóstico em saliva e nesse sentido estabeleceu com financiamento de fundos regionais e europeus o laboratório SalivaTec.

Lidera ou colabora em vários projetos de investigação com financiamento por diferentes agências nacionais ou internacionais e tem larga experiencia na orientação de alunos de pós-doutoramento, doutoramento e mestrado.


CARE - Eduardo Luis Cardoso

Eduardo Luís Cardoso

Eduardo Luís Cardoso holds an appointment as Researcher, Assistant Professor and Coordinator of the task force on Knowledge Transfer and of the Services to Companies at Faculty of Biotechnology – UCP Porto.

He has got a PhD in the area of Innovation from the School of Engineering of the Minho University (PT) and has experience in management roles at different projects and programs from research, innovation and technology commercialization. He also has been member of the board at the Faculty, the CBQF Research Center, and at the AESBUC University-Industry Association. He is graduated in Chemical Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering of the Porto University (FEUP) in the year 1986 and as an Industrial Management Master from the same University.

He teaches Innovation and Entrepreneurship; Learning Technologies; and Research Methodologies in different Undergraduate, Master and PhD Programs, in Business, Science and Technology.

His research interests cover: Innovation; Individual and Organizational Learning; Knowledge Management and Entrepreneurship.

He has coordinated a number of R&D+I projects, some funded in programs like RTD FP or ERASMUS+. He has extensive experience of evaluating R&D+I policies, projects, systems and services. He was consultant of the Evaluation Office from the Education Ministry (PT) where he was also Coordinator of one Competence Center for ICT in Education, cooperating during 10 years on the National Network supporting ICT in Schools

He was team member of one spinoff, in 2009, that now operates in the international markets in the area of Laboratory Technologies.


CARE - João Pereira

João Pereira

João Pereira is the Head of Innovation at Universidade Católica Portuguesa, as well as an Associate Professor at the Medical School, where he leads the Laboratory of Biostatistics. With a degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico and a PhD in Brain Imaging from Cambridge University, he has worked in a range of fields, ranging from business consultancy at McKinsey & Company to political advisory in Science and Education at the Portuguese Parliament. He was also a Researcher in Biostatistics and Medical Imaging at the University of Coimbra before founding a diagnostics equipment company. Prior to joining UCP, he worked as Director and CFO of HeartGenetics, a genetic tests start-up, and oversaw its sale to an international laboratory.


CARE - Ana Costa Freitas

Ana Costa Freitas

President of the Portuguese Association of Women Scientists (AMONET). Former Rector at University of Evora, Portugal (2014-2022). Vice-Rector (2006-2010) and, in between, Adviser at EC BEPA – Bureau of European Policy Advisers with the dossier Higher Education also worked with the CSA (Chief Scientific Adviser) of the European Comission President. During the stay at EU have given several oral communication, and presentations and published papers publications on the modernization of Higher Education and the future of Higher Education in Europe as well as at global level. The scientific field of expertise is food science and technology mainly related to Mediterranean agriculture and the preservation and sustainability of the Mediterranean eco-system.
Was part of the PRIMA Foundation steering committee for one mandate and part of the UNIMED Board since 2019.


CARE - Paulo C. Dias

Paulo C. Dias

Paulo C. Dias, Psychologist, with master degree in Educational Sciences and PhD in Health Psychology. As professor, he is Assistant Professor and Coordinator of Psychology course at the Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences of the Catholic University of Portugal and directs the research line regarding "Cognition, intersubjectivity and human development" at the Center of Philosophical and Humanistic Studies. Since 2009 has been involved in several National and European funded research in educational field (about plagiarism in secondary schools, project-based learning in secondary schools) and in health and addictions (early detection drug-consumption, alcohol prevention in adolescence, and cannabis prevention). During this period, outputs have been published in national and international journals.

Alex Villas Boas

Alex Villas Boas is Brazilian and currently is a full member of Research Centre of Theology and Religious Studies (CITER UCP) as principal researcher. PhD in Theology at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro with a thesis on Theology and Literature dialogue about the meaning of life. Habilitation thesis on the relation between theological language and ethics with the otherness and mercy issue on Pope Francis at the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo. Postdoctorate fellow in Theology and Spirituality at the Pontifical University Gregorian in Rome, with research on the Spiritual Exercises of Ignatius of Loyola conception between Karl Rahner and Hans Urs von Balthasar. Also, he is lecturer of the Graduate Program of Theology, where was the coordinator since (2017-2019) and guest lecturer of the Graduate Program of Human Rights and Public Policy, both of Pontifical University of Parana, Brazil (PUC PR). Guest lecturer at: Department of Literary Studies at the University of Aveiro (Portugal); Faculty of Theology and Science of Religion at the University of Laval (Canada); Doctorate Program of Humanities at the Catholic University of Mozambique; Graduate Program of History and Literary Theory at the State University of Campinas, Brazil (UNICAMP). Editor in chief of Teoliteraria – Journal of Literature and Theology. Executive board member of the SOTER - Brazilian Society of Theology and Sciences of Religion (2017-2019), and the ALAITE - Latin America Association of Literature and Theology (2016-2018). Member of the ACFAS – Association francophone pour le savoir du Québec.


CARE - Elvira Fortunado

Elvira Fortunato

Elvira Fortunato was born in Almada in 1964.

She has a degree in Physics and Materials Engineering (1987, FCT/ Nova University of Lisbon); a PhD in Materials Engineering: Microelectronics and Optoelectronics (1995, FCT/ Nova University of Lisbon

From 2015 to 2020 she was part of the group of seven researchers in the European Commission Scientific Advice Mechanism based on scientific evidence. 

Since 2010 she has been in the Chancellery of the Honorific Orders of Portugal, at the Presidency of the Republic. 

She is a pioneer in European research on transparent electronics using sustainable materials and environmentally friendly technologies. In 2008, at the 1st edition of the  European Research Council ERC grants, she was awarded an Advanced Grant for the project INVISIBLE, considered by the European Commission to be a success story. In the same year, she showed with her group the possibility of manufacturing the first paper transistor, starting a new field in the area of paper electronics. In 2018 she was awarded a second Advanced Grant for the project DIGISMART. Recently, and following on from the exploratory results of the DIGISMART, she obtained Proof of Concept with the e-GREEN project: From forests to Green Electronics, focusing on exploring environmentally friendly and low-cost materials and technology exploration.

In 2022, she was part of the group of 27 inspiring European Women, elected by the current French Presidency of the European Union.

With over 800 scientific papers published, in the last few years she has been awarded more than 50 prizes and international distinctions for her work, of which we note the title of Grand Officer of the Order of Infante D. Henrique, bestowed by the President of the Republic in 2010, the Blaise Pascal Medal in 2016, the Czochralski prize in 2017, the Pessoa prize in 2020, the Horizon Impact prize by the European Commission in 2020 with the project INVISIBLE, the prize of the World Federation of Engineering Organisations: WFOE GREE AWARD Women in 2020, The Strait of Magellan Prize by the Chilean Government in 2020, the Innovation in Materials prize in 2021 granted by the FEMS and the Human Rights Prize granted by Parliament in 2021.

She is an elected member of the Engineering Academy, the European Science Academy, the Lisbon Science Academy, and the Europaea Academy. She has been on the Luso-American Foundation for Development Board of Trustees since 2014. 

She has coordinated several national and international project, of which we note her pioneering activity at Nova University of Lisbon in the field of equal opportunities through the SPEAR project, a European platform to support and implement plans for gender equality in higher education institution.

Francisca is currently the head of training, research and innovation at Luz Saúde and an invited Assistant Professor and member of the Dean’s Board at FM-UCP. Previously, she was a consultant at McKinsey & Company. Francisca holds a PhD in Medical Engineering, Medical Physics from MIT and Harvard Medical School, and a Licenciatura in Physics Engineering and Technology from Instituto Superior Técnico.

CARE - Gulsun Saglamer

Gülsün Sağlamer

Prof. Dr. Gülsün Sağlamer, Former Rector of Istanbul Technical University (ITU) (1996-2004) is a professor of architecture and has been as a post-doc researcher in Cambridge University (1975-1976), visiting Professor in Queen’s University of Belfast in 1993-1996 and was also invited to be an external examiner at the same university for four years between 1999 and 2003.  

She was a Board Member of EUA (European University Association) (2005-2009) and a member of the Steering Committee of the EUA’s Institutional Evaluation Programme (IEP) (2009-2013), a chair of evaluation teams in IEP evaluations since 2011 and a member of the Research Policy Working Group of EUA since its establishment in 2005 till 2015.  She is an Executive Committee Member (2003-) of the International Association of University Presidents (IAUP) and served as the President of CMU (Community of Mediterranean Universities) (2012-2016). She was invited to the Marie Curie People Programme (EC) Advisory Group for five terms: 2006-2018 and has been the Chair of the Marie Sklodowska Curie Actions Advisory Group in Horizon 2020 (2013-2016).

She is a Member of the Board of Trustees of Kadir Has University (2006-2014)(2019-) and the Founder and the Chair of the Board of ITU’s Technology Park ARI Techno-City (2002-2004)(2020- ). She is the founder of ITU Development Foundation’s Schools: Nursery (1998), Primary School (2001), High School (2006) to provide better work-life balance for ITU academic staff. She was the Chair of the Academic Council of these schools for 8 years (2000-2008) and she is back to K12 schools again as the chair of its Governing Board since 2019.

Prof. Sağlamer established a centre at Istanbul Technical University titled “Women Studies in Science Engineering and Technology“ in 2009 and served as the director of this centre 2009-2012. She has led the ITU team in 5 of the EC funded (FP6 and FP7) projects on Women in STEM (2006-2017). In December, 2015 European Women Rectors Association (EWORA) has been established under the Belgian Law in Brussels and Prof. Sağlamer is the founding Board member and the President of EWORA. She is re-elected as the President of EWORA for the period of 2019-2023. She has been representing Turkey in ERAC Standing Working Group on Gender in Research and Innovation (Former Helsinki Group) since 2o18. She is now one of the Ambassadors of the Magna Charta Observatory’s “Living Values Project” since 2019.

Gülsün Sağlamer is a registered architect at the Chamber of Architects of Turkey, Istanbul. She designed several important architectural projects and received awards at national and international levels such as Best Buildings of the Year 2000 by Kolleksiyon, for the “Sedat Üründül Nursery”. Same project also received a prize from OECD PEB 2nd Compendium of Exemplary Educational Facilities, 2000.  She designed hotel buildings,  housing groups, research centres, and villas in different parts of Turkey.  She has served as a jury member in many national architectural design competitions.

She has been awarded Honoris Causa by Carleton University, Canada (2001), Universitatea de Nord Din Baia Mare University, Romania (2002), Ovidius University of Constantza in Romania (2009) and Queens University of Belfast (2018). American Institute of Architects (AIA) awarded her “Honorary Fellowship (Hon FAIA) in 2006 and she has been also awarded “Leonardo da Vinci Medal” by SEFI (Société Européenne Pour la Formation Ingénieurs-European Society for Engineering Education) in 2005-2006.  She is a member of European Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters since 2011.

Nasceu em Caldas de Vizela (S. Miguel), em 1958. 

Licenciado em Ensino de Português-Inglês, na Universidade do Minho, em 1981. 

Mestre em Linguística Portuguesa Histórica, pela Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Lisboa, em 1987. 

Doutor em Educação, na área de conhecimento de Metodologia do Ensino do Português, pela Universidade do Minho, em 1994.

Professor catedrático da Universidade do Minho desde 2005. 

A sua atividade de ensino e os seus interesses científicos concentram-se nas áreas da Educação e Linguagem, com foco principal nas questões do ensino do português, das literacias, com ênfase nos usos de linguagem em contexto de trabalho. 

Vice-Reitor da Universidade do Minho, entre 2009 e 2013, com o pelouro do Ensino e da Investigação.  Entre 2013 e 2017 desempenhou as mesmas funções de Vice-Reitor, agora com o pelouro da Educação, tendo cessado funções em janeiro de 2017. Neste mesmo ano, foi eleito para o Conselho Geral da Universidade. Reitor da Universidade do Minho desde 2017.


CARE - Alexandra Pereira

Alexandra Pereira

Alexandra Pereira é investigadora PostDoc do Programa DHI e doutorada em Sociologia pelo ISEG (Universidade de Lisboa) com uma tese intitulada “Transborder Himalaya – Processos de Transnacionalismo nos Empresários e Trabalhadores Nepaleses em Lisboa” (2019). É também mestre em Psicologia Clínica pela FPCE (Universidade de Coimbra), foi assistente de investigação do ISCTE-IUL e integra o IMISCOE/MigrationResearchHub. Investigadora de sociologia (migrações) e psicóloga clínica que colaborou com associações de migrantes na Finlândia, Reino Unido e Portugal, está atualmente envolvida na investigação de questões ligadas à discriminação de género em migrantes nepalesas. Os seus interesses de investigação incluem: Nepaleses em Portugal e na Europa, Feminismo e Mulheres Migrantes, Transnacionalismo, Tráfico Humano, Exploração Laboral, Governança Migratória e Empreendedores Migrantes. É Membro da APS (Associação Portuguesa de Sociologia) e da OPP (Ordem dos Psicólogos Portugueses).


CARE - Maria Pena Ermida

Maria Ermida

Graduated in Law from the Faculty of Law of Universidade Católica Portuguesa, Maria Pena Ermida sought to deepen her knowledge in the area of economics of the sea. For that reason, she also completed a postgraduate course in Sea Science and Business Administration, an interdisciplinary course promoted by the Universidade Católica Portuguesa and the Faculdade of Sciences at the University of Lisbon. She continued her studies, becoming a Master in International and European Law at the Faculty of Law of Universidade Nova de Lisboa, having focused her studies in Law of the Sea. She is currently carrying out her PhD focused on the governance of marine areas beyond the jurisdiction of States at the Católica Global School of Law, at Universidade Católica Portuguesa. While pursuing her academic career as a researcher at the Católica Center for the Future of Law, she has also provided legal support to several non-governmental organizations as well as governmental entities. She is also an active member of the Youth Policy Advisory Council of the Sustainable Ocean Alliance, being particularly committed to the working group dedicated to deep sea mining.


CARE - Ernesto Tages

Ernesto Tages

Ernesto Tages holds a degree in Business Administration, a Masters in Political Science, a specialization in Positive Psychology and is the author of the Emotional Excellence methodology that he applies in consultancy and executive education models.

Born in Argentina, after working several years in banking Ernesto successfully extended his activities to new areas of interest regarding the greatest riches of Human endeavour.

For more than a decade, Tages travelled the globe and invested in education and research within the fields of economics, philosophy, psychology and medicine among other areas of knowledge. In his quest to reach the depths of the mind, Ernesto has been trained in eastern traditions of physical, mental, and spiritual practices and disciplines for more than 20 years. The solid experience acquired grants him a multidisciplinary and multicultural understanding of the Human Being as well as a global and open mentality.

Deeply concerned with the development of our rationality in order to improve our performance, Ernesto emphasises that we must understand the powerful role that both emotions and thoughts play in our minds.

At present, he works from Portugal to the rest of the world, developing the intuition and visionary capability of prominent leaders from the private, public and social sectors.


CARE - Ana Moreno

Ana Moreno

Ana Filipa Moreno é Docente Convidada na Faculdade de Educação e Psicologia da Universidade Católica Portuguesa e atualmente doutoranda e Investigadora do Centro de Investigação para o Desenvolvimento Humano da Universidade Católica Portuguesa. Ao longo dos últimos anos, o seu trabalho de investigação tem-se desenvolvido mais especificamente dentro do Human Neurobehavioral Laboratory (HNL), designadamente nas áreas da regulação emocional, empatia, correlatos psicofisiológicos e avaliação de aspetos cognitivos e emocionais em tarefas em contexto laboratorial. O seu projeto de doutoramento insere-se no programa internacional Ph.D. in Applied Psychology, e congrega as suas áreas de interesse, tendo como objetivo a avaliação e promoção de estratégias de regulação emocional em polícias, com recurso a medidas psicofisiológicas.


CARE - Shenglan Zhou

Shenglan Zhou

Shenglan Zhou é licenciada em Língua e Cultura Portuguesa pela Universidade de Estudos Estrangeiros de Tianjin. Concluiu o mestrado em Estudos Asiáticos na Faculdade de Ciências Humanas da Universidade Católica Portuguesa. Trabalhou como intérprete e tradutora de português-chinês para várias instituições chinesas tais como China Radio International e TEDA Group(Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area. É leitora de Língua Chinesa na FCH-UCP e é também tradutora e assistente de investigação na Jorge Welsh, Works of Art.
