Universidade Católica Portuguesa receives funding under the Recovery and Resilience Plan
Universidade Católica Portuguesa's "Training for Resilience - a value for the future" project has been approved for funding under the Recovery and Resilience Plan for 2021-2026. UCP will receive an amount of 8,563,495 euros: 2,621,771 euros corresponding to "Impulso Jovens STEAM" and 5,941,724 euros corresponding to "Impulso Adultos", through the programme contract, signed with the Directorate General of Higher Education, at the end of 2021.
Through this funding, UCP will implement a set of investments in infrastructures, equipment, human resources and scholarships, with a view to developing four Knowledge Academies: Arts, Humanities & Creative Industries, Health, Management, and Public Governance & Administration and three "Schools" / "Alliances": Health Education (Lisbon); Dental Medicine (Viseu) and Management and Innovation in Retail (Lisbon) - for post-graduate training in cooperation with employers.
The creation of Knowledge Academies seeks to enrich the range of programmes offered by the UCP and to increase the number of students in undergraduate training and of participants in non-degree training actions.
Three of these Knowledge Academies - Arts, Humanities & Creative Industries, Health; and Management, will be developed under the "Impulso Young STEAM" and "Impulso Adults" programmes, while the Public Governance & Administration Knowledge Academy will be developed with the "Impulso Adults" investment.
UCP aims to achieve a comprehensive ecological education model by focusing on the main segments of expertise. Grounded in previous achievements on the path of creative innovation, the University has selected in its strategic development four areas that will be the recognised focal points for a structured plan focused on:
a) broaden access to non-institutional audiences and different demographics of the population;
b) work for the qualification and requalification of the workforce in view of the lessons learned from the pandemic;
c) diversify the supply of degrees and non-degrees to serve the new needs of the professional market and anticipate change;
d) develop digital transformation through the adoption of technology-driven pedagogical innovation.
Seizing new opportunities to improve education, UCP is aligned with today's scientific and social challenges. The four Knowledge Academies are now proposed with the intention of strengthening existing degree programmes, and widening access to them while proposing new training programmes. They are designed to attract more students into higher education and help them develop the skills to manage the increasingly complex learning tools at their disposal. With the help of innovative teaching-learning methodologies, students should be trained to develop critical thinking, how to integrate emerging knowledge and develop communication and collaboration skills. Through the creation of lived labs in partnership with industry, and in collaboration with the consortia of established organisations/companies in each area, students will be inspired to be autonomous and solve complex real-world problems with direct interaction with the professional world.
The training programme proposed by UCP is ambitious, robust and consistent and will make a substantial contribution to the achievement of the objectives outlined by the Portuguese Government for the Recovery and Resilience Plan.
