Universidade Católica Portuguesa celebrates António Sardinha with a colloquium and a legacy donation to the João Paulo II University Library

Universidade Católica Portuguesa’s Research Centre for Communication and Culture (CECC) from the Faculty of Human Sciences, in partnership with the João Paulo II University Library, invites the academic community to participate in three events dedicated to the intellectual António Sardinha, which will take place on September 22, 2025.

The program begins at 2:00 p.m. in the Exhibition Room [2nd floor of the library building] with the launch of the book Diálogos ibéricos y transatlánticos. Mapeando las redes intelectuales en torno al Hispanismo de António Sardinha (UCP Press), written by Susana Rocha Relvas, who will be in conversation with Inês Espada Vieira.

Afterwards, at 3:00 p.m., in the same venue, the colloquium “António Sardinha, Portugal, and the Portuguese” will take place, with interventions by Ana Isabel Sardinha Desvignes, José Carlos Seabra Pereira, Luís Lóia, and José Miguel Sardica.

The program will conclude at 7:00 p.m. with the protocol signing for the donation of artifacts belonging to António Sardinha to the João Paulo II University Library.

Three artifacts of high symbolic and historical value will be donated—a sanguine drawing, a silver salver, and a diploma—offered by three different descendants of the intellectual.

These items will be on display during the colloquium and will become part of the library’s permanent collection. The signing ceremony will be attended by the President, Isabel Capeloa Gil, and António Sardinha's family.

Admission is free, but subject to the capacity of the room.
