"Technological transformation has driven change at multiple levels at Católica", says Isabel Capeloa Gil at the Delphi Economic Forum

"The science produced at universities is essential for the development and growth of economies. Universities are not silos. It is important that they are also partners in the transformation that occurs in the banking, industrial and business sectors." The words are from the President of Universidade Católica Portuguesa at the "Delphi Economic Forum VIII", which took place in Delphi, Greece, from April 26 to 29.

Guest speaker of the panel "Transitional Skills, Workforce Society in Time of Accelerated Technology Change", on the topic "Future of Work", Isabel Capeloa Gil presented the technological evolution adaptations, produced at the UCP, namely the Athena Project, which according to the President is "one of the most difficult tasks" of her life as President, but which represents a transformation towards a "better organisation of the University".

Recalling that "students arrive at universities with skills and great technological knowledge, they expect an added value that is not only instrumental" and this, she added, "has also forced a change in the way we teach, namely at the level of methodology and pedagogy."

A significant change, the President pointed out, is "teaching through the problem-solving methodology (PBL), which has already been implemented in the Integrated Masters in Medicine at Católica Medical School and which will be extended to other areas of education", as professionals, after finishing their courses, "must continue to study, adapt and evolve".

Isabel Capeloa Gil also mentioned that "despite what was expected during the pandemic, face-to-face teaching at the university will continue", adding that "our role is not only to provide useful tools for life, which is essential, but also to offer Wisdom, helping to create good citizens".
