From 25 to 29 May, the Universidade Católica Portuguesa's headquarters, in Lisbon will become the home of the Transform4Europe alliance, with 470 students, academics and experts from 36 countries and 16 universities joining the T4EU Week: “Community, Communities: Engage to Transform”.

29 May is the final day of this international week, which includes, amongst other activities, a concert by the Católica Big Band and a cultural tour of the campus, featuring works on display.

On 28 May, the book “Community, Communities: Engage to Transform”, published by UCP Press and featuring contributions from 55 authors, will be launched. The event will take place at the Lisbon Book Fair, at the UCP Press stands (D33-D34).

On 27 May, T4EU Week featured the Global Partnership Forum, a space for dialogue and cooperation under the theme “A Choreography for Transformative Knowledge”. The workshop “Community, Communities – Inclusion in Practice” focused on promoting more inclusive practices through dialogue, exchange and collaboration.

The Iron Brothers, Pedro and Miguel Ferreira Pinto, were the keynote speakers of the day, which also featured presentations by Isabel Capeloa Gil, Rector of the Portuguese Catholic University, and Henrique Veiga-Fernandes, a researcher at the Champalimaud Centre for the Unknown. Also participating were Josphat Igadwa Mwasiagi (Moi University, Kenya), Rachael Fahrenbach (Oregon State University, USA), Veronica Frisancho (CAF – Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean), Gustavo Curcio (University of São Paulo) and rectors from various universities in the alliance.

On 26 May, the programme also included a concert by the Jazz Trio, a Biodanza session and a sunset reading party.

The first day of the initiative, 25 May, featured the “Entrepreneurial Workshop” scavenger hunt, which took participants on a tour of Lisbon, ending at the São Pedro de Alcântara viewpoint.

Other highlights include the Festas de Santo António, a sporting challenge, the mental health workshop on academic burnout entitled “Strategies to Regain Balance”, an exhibition organised by the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the Universidade Católica, marking the 40th anniversary of Portugal’s membership of the European Communities, as well as an exclusive “Pecha-Kucha”-style session for PhD students, a concert by the Católica Big Band and a cultural tour of the campus, featuring works on display.

During this period, undergraduate, master’s and PhD students from Católica and the other 10 universities in the alliance will take part in three immersive courses: Societal Transformation, Environmental Transformation and Digital Transformation, coordinated by Peter Hanenberg, Vice-Rector of Católica, João Cortez,  Director of the Office of Research and Innovation at Católica, and Luís Barreto Xavier, a lecturer at the Faculty of Law at Católica.

“By organising this week and its various activities, Católica is making a distinctive contribution to building the T4EU community and the European Education Area, across all areas of the University,” emphasises the director of the alliance at Católica, Francisco Mendes-Palma.
