Porto Regional Centre distinguishes innovative interdisciplinary projects with high social impact

A new bioproduct with neuroprotective potential and green public policies are the themes of the two winning projects of the 2nd edition of the competition for interdisciplinary research projects promoted by the Porto Regional Centre of the Universidade Católica. Both projects propose to make use of interdisciplinarity as an essential key for the development of innovative solutions with high social impact.

The research project B4Brain, led by the Human Neurobehavioral Laboratory of the Faculty of Education and Psychology and with the participation of the Center for Biotechnology and Fine Chemistry (CBQF), the School of Biotechnology, the Center for Studies in Management and Economics (CEGE) and the Center for Interdisciplinary Research in Health (CISS), of the Institute of Health Sciences, aims to develop a new bioproduct with neuroprotective potential, coupled with an innovative delivery and release technology (microencapsulation technology) for the prevention and therapy of neurodegenerative diseases.

The project "Designing Green Contract Mechanisms between Government and Private Sector to Combat Environmental Challenges Based on the System-of-Systems Approach", coordinated by the Centre for Studies in Management and Economics (CEGE) of the Católica Porto Business School, and with the participation of the Centre for Studies and Research in Law (CEID) of the Porto School of Law, aims to assess the cooperation between the public and private sectors regarding the definition of green public policies.

Célia Manaia, vice-president of the Porto Regional Centre, says that, "through this competition and the consequent attribution of funding to the winning projects, Católica Porto aims to promote innovation at the service of the common good."

"Católica's campus in Porto is an endless sea of possibilities. Multidisciplinarity defines us and puts us at the forefront of knowledge production. Here knowledge crosses, ideas are exchanged, improbable possibilities of high impact are created," she added.
