Note of condolence on the passing of Professor Margarida Vieira

Universidade Católica Portuguesa expresses its deepest condolences on the passing of Margarida Vieira, retired professor at the Faculty of Health Sciences and former director of the School of Nursing (Porto).

Throughout her remarkable career, Professor Margarida Vieira has distinguished herself as a national and international reference in nursing, having contributed decisively to the enhancement of the profession, the training of generations of nurses, and the consolidation of health research. Recognised for her academic rigour, ethical integrity, and commitment to justice in care, she was awarded the Gold Medal for Health by the Ministry of Health.

Her last lecture, entitled ‘On the path to fair care for all’, was a celebration of his professional life and a reunion with colleagues, students and friends. On that occasion, he left us with a message that will echo forever in our community: ‘Take care! And everything you do will be right.’ 

The funeral will be held on Thursday, 31 July, starting at 10:30 a.m. at the Nossa Sra. Conceição Church (Marquês-Porto) and the burial will be on the same day at the church at 4:30 p.m.

Raquel Silva, guest lecturer at the School of Nursing (Porto) and Paulo Alves, also a lecturer and director of the School, were awarded the 1st ‘Mariana Diniz de Sousa’ Research Prize for their work ‘Clinical Decision Algorithms in Nursing: contributions to the care of people with complex wounds’.
