New students at Católica dream of leaving their mark on the world

It's on a colourful campus, dressed up for the new academic year, that the new students at Universidade Católica Portuguesa have been breaking the ice and making friendships that will hopefully last a lifetime.

Whether it's doing peddy-papers to discover the facilities or helping their peers, in volunteering activities such as the creation of the new ‘Laudato Si’’ garden or Restolho, the freshmen are integrating into what will be their new home for the next few years.

Among the cheerful faces of a small group of friends, Beatriz Jesus stands out, an 18-year-old from Moita who dreams of ‘helping people as much as possible and making a difference’.

Certain that she wants to leave her mark on the world, Beatriz chose a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology at UCP.

‘I teach catechism, do voluntary work and am part of a youth group. All this made me want to come here,’ she says with no regrets.

In just one week, she has already created a group of friends. This is thanks to the welcoming atmosphere at the Faculty of Human Sciences, where she particularly emphasises the friendliness of the people, making it easier to integrate.

As for the future, Beatriz's biggest dream is to ‘make people's lives a little better’.

And like her, hundreds of young people are now taking their first steps at Católica, in Lisbon, Porto, Braga, Viseu and Sintra, towards making their dreams come true.
