MindCast returns: "When a cancer diagnosis changes everything: what happens inside us?" opens the third season

MindCast, the mental health podcast from the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, returns for its third season with an episode dedicated to the psychological impact of a cancer diagnosis.

The guest is Joana Nobre Teixeira, a clinical psychologist at the IPO in Lisbon, who, in conversation with host Sofia Torneiro, explores the emotional impact and profound changes that this diagnosis can cause in the routines, relationships and identity of those who experience it.

The conversation begins with the guest's professional career at the IPO and what motivated her to enter the field of oncology. It then addresses the emotional intensity experienced by those who receive the diagnosis and in the days that follow.

Throughout the episode, the main challenges associated with diagnosis and the particular reality of Breast Cancer Awareness Month are explored, and a case is presented that highlights the importance of psychological support. The role of the patient and that of the caregiver are also distinguished, clarifying the role of family and friends through concrete gestures of help.

Finally, guidance is shared on how to maintain a balance between hope and realism throughout treatment.
