Life at Católica: music groups for Católica students

Students at Universidade Católica Portuguesa can take part in numerous clubs and extracurricular activities that enrich academic life. Among them are the traditional tunas, but not only: there is also a Big Band and a fado group.

CATÓLICA-LISBON Big Band

The Big Band of CATÓLICA-LISBON is not a traditional jazz orchestra, but rather a group with room for all kinds of instruments and ideas. Conducted by the maestro Eduardo Lála, it is comprised of students, faculty, staff and even alumni.

The idea for the Big Band came from Filipe Santos, Dean of Católica Lisbon School of Business and Economics. It aims to bring the academic community together in a musical experience.

PauliTuna

Founded in 2000, PauliTuna is the mixed tuna of the School of Nursing (Lisbon) of the Institute of Health Sciences of Universidade Católica Portuguesa. In this tuna, students learn to play instruments and live this academic tradition.

Líricas

Founded in 2003, the female tuna Líricas performs in academic events, festivals, weddings, masses, popular festivals, and all kinds of parties. Their repertoire includes Portuguese popular songs, fados and original themes about their experiences as singers and students in the city of Braga.

Católica Porto Tunas

Also at the Regional Center of Porto of the Catholic University of Portugal, students can be part of either the women's or the men's tuna. Both were founded in 1990 and continue to represent tradition and the academic spirit through popular music.

Fados and Guitars Group

In Porto, there is also the "Fados e Guitarradas" Group, a group of academic fado interpreters, with members from several generations.
