FMD reinforces pedagogical innovation with the acquisition of SimToCare simulators for teaching dentistry

The Faculty of Dental Medicine of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa (FMD-UCP) has taken another significant step forward in modernising dental education with the acquisition of SimToCare simulators, a cutting-edge technology that combines virtual reality and haptic feedback, enabling a highly immersive and realistic training experience.

These simulators are an essential tool for developing technical and clinical skills in a controlled environment, giving students the opportunity to practise dental procedures with a high degree of precision and safety before moving on to practise on real patients. With this acquisition, FMD reaffirms its commitment to excellence in teaching and pedagogical innovation, central elements of its educational mission.

The introduction of SimToCare simulators reinforces FMD's strategy in building its digital health education ecosystem, integrating emerging technologies that bring academic training closer to the clinical and technological realities of the 21st century. By combining dental education with the potential of the digital world and haptic equipment, FMD promotes a more dynamic, interactive and student-centred educational model.

The application of simulation in teaching also fits into the strategic vision of the Centre for Digital Education in Dentistry (CED-Med), recently created by the FMD, which aims to consolidate innovative technology-mediated teaching and learning practices. The acquisition of SimToCare simulators is a concrete example of the implementation of this vision, promoting the integration of pedagogy, science and technology in the service of educational quality.

With this initiative, FMD reaffirms its position at the forefront of health education, investing in technological solutions that not only complement pre-clinical and clinical teaching, but also transform the way future dentists learn, practise and prepare for contemporary clinical challenges.
