Faculty of Human Sciences renews protocol with Rádio Renascença

On 20 February, the Faculty of Human Sciences (FCH) of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa and Rádio Renascença renewed the protocol for the FCH/Rádio Renascença Doctoral Scholarship.

This scholarship, which consists of an annual amount of €5,000, is intended for a PhD student in Communication Studies who intends to or is developing a thesis in the field of media studies and/or journalism. It will be awarded by Rádio Renascença to the FCH, which will channel the entire amount to pay the tuition fees of the student who receives it each year.

‘In a time of disinformation, we really need specialists and well-trained academics in this very important area of the Social Sciences, which is Communication Sciences,’ said the President of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, Isabel Capeloa Gil, after the document was signed.

‘Our mission goes beyond the microphones and the waves that carry the radio's content to our listeners,’ emphasised the Chairman of the Management Board of the Renascença Multimédia group, Paulo Franco, referring to the radio's “public service character”, which also manifests itself in academic partnerships.

This scholarship is ‘the realisation of our awareness, that we want to be present in the training of new squares, that we want to have a say with the social responsibility we have towards those who will become the resources and instruments to make true, good and free information available to everyone,’ he added.

This protocol, first established in 2017, will be valid for five years and will run from the next school year (2025/2026) until the 2029/2030 school year.
