Faculty of Education and Psychology celebrates 20 years of the Psychology degree with commemorative run

The Faculty of Education and Psychology at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa (FEP-UCP) marked the 20th anniversary of its Psychology degree with an afternoon of celebration, energy, and meaningful reunions.

On 30 May 2025, students, alumni, lecturers, and staff quite literally “put on the shirt” and took part in a commemorative run that brought generations together and strengthened the sense of belonging within the FEP-UCP community.

The event began with a symbolic run, starting from the Universidade Católica Porto campus and heading towards the Edifício Transparente. The initiative was led by Matilde Santos, an alumna of the Psychology degree and founder of the Can Run Club — an essential partner in this event. A relaxed and enthusiastic atmosphere set the tone for the entire celebration and was contagious among all participants.

Back at the University, the day continued with a community gathering filled with music, food, drinks, and lively conversation. The high level of participation and engagement reflected the core values of the Faculty: closeness, sharing, and a strong commitment to health and well-being.

"More than a run, it was a moment of connection"

The Director of FEP-UCP, Raquel Matos, highlighted the significance of the event: “This was a very special way to celebrate the 20th anniversary of our Psychology degree. The presence of so many members of our community shows that the journey we began two decades ago is still vibrant and dynamic. More than a run, this was a moment of connection.”

Matilde Santos agreed: “Celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Psychology degree at Católica through this run was truly special. If there’s one thing this course taught me, it was the value of human relationships. That’s exactly what this event set out to do — to bring together students, alumni, and lecturers through sport. She hopes this kind of initiative continues: “We need innovation to truly connect with younger generations, and I believe Católica is on the right path.”

“The kilometres we've run are just the beginning”

For Carolina Garcez, a current Psychology student, the run was a particularly memorable experience: “It was a great opportunity to connect with our lecturers and fellow students outside the classroom setting. The mood was light, cheerful, and full of positive energy. After the run, the community gathering was such a fun moment — it really brought us closer together as an academic community!”.

Fellow Psychology student Sister Thaís Vogt also reflected on the symbolism of the event: It was an honour and a great joy to celebrate these two decades of history, especially alongside those who were there from the start — those who dreamed, believed, and built the path we continue to walk today.”

She added: “The 5 km run was symbolic, but also a clear sign: the journey continues. The kilometres we’ve run are just the beginning of many more we’ll run together, with the same courage and passion that brought us here.”

This celebration aligns perfectly with initiatives such as UCP 2 Mental Health and UCP4SUCCESS, both designed to promote student well-being and ease the transition into university life.

The Faculty would like to thank everyone who took part in this moment of celebration. Here’s to at least another 20 years together!
