Escola das Artes organises a cycle of open classes with Brazilian curator Luiz Camillo Osório

The Escola das Artes is organizing another cycle of open classes. The first session takes place on February 17, at 6:30 p.m. The guest is the renowned Brazilian curator Luiz Camillo Osório, who will speak on "From the anthropological turn in the 1970s to contemporary indigenous art in Brazil.

"Every year the Escola das Artes focuses on the most relevant themes around contemporary artistic practices. In these public sessions open to the community, our students come into contact with artists, curators and thinkers who are at the forefront of their respective fields. This is a fundamental dimension in their artistic and professional development so that they can gain an awareness of the discussions that mark the artistic environment. Our students grow up in dialogue with the artistic environment and prepared to create work of great relevance", says Professor Daniel Ribas, coordinator of the Masters in Cinema at the Escola das Artes.

Luiz Camillo Osório, the first guest of this cycle of open classes, has a vast curriculum in Aesthetics and Philosophy of Art. Besides being the director of the Philosophy Department at PUC-Rio and dedicating himself to academic research, he is also a critic and one of the most important Brazilian curators. As a curator, he has worked at the Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro, in the Brazilian Pavilion, in the Venice Biennale 2015. He has also written art criticism columns for the newspapers O Globo and Jornal do Brasil. Luiz Camillo Osório's Open Class will deal with an anthropological transition of Brazilian art in the 1970s and then address contemporary indigenous production throughout the 21st century.

The 2022 Open Classes program of the Escola das Artes of the Porto Regional Centre integrates artists, researchers and activists from distinct areas and contexts. The meetings aim to contribute to contemporary debates that surround artistic practices and critical thinking.

Between February and May, open classes with Ângela Ferreira (April 21), Ulrich Baer (March 10), Manthia Diawara (March 17), Rosangela Rennó (April 28), Filipa Lowndes Vicente (May 12), Jessica Sarah Rinland (May 19), and Marinho de Pina (May 26) have already been confirmed.

The Open Classes are free of charge and will be held at the Ilídio Pinho Auditorium every Thursday (6:30 p.m.) between February and May 2022.
