CEPCEP debates "speaking, living and thinking in Portuguese" at congress with 180 participants

In the world, everything always has a meaning. This meaning emerges from language, the language we speak is glued to our skin. Language doesn't appear to us as language, but as reality, as the world." These were the words of Fernando Ilharco, President of CEPCEP - Centre for the Study of Portuguese-Speaking Peoples and Cultures, at the closing of the international congress 'In Portuguese - Speaking, Living and Thinking in the 21st Century'.

The event was attended by 180 Portuguese-speaking researchers from all over the world at the headquarters of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa from November 27 to 28. With more than 50 papers presented, the congress debated living in Portuguese in the global world, focusing on the experience of language, history and culture as bridges to the future and encouraging the launch of international research projects.

Various sessions were held in four Panels: "Histories, Cultures, Identities", with the presentation of 20 papers; "Teaching and Scientific Research", also with the presentation of 20 papers; "Media, New Media, Technology", with the presentation of 9 papers; and "Portuguese Literature in the World", with 7 papers.

The congress was organised by CEPCEP as part of a project in partnership with researchers from the Catholic University of Pernambuco (Brazil), the University of São José (Macau/China), the National University of Timor-Lorosae (Timor), the University of Cape Verde (Cape Verde), the Catholic University of Angola (Angola), the Catholic University of Mozambique (Mozambique), the Eduardo Mondlane University (Mozambique), the Lusíada University of São Tomé and Príncipe (São Tomé and Príncipe) and the National Institute of Studies and Research (Guinea-Bissau).
