CBQF Project among the five finalists for the Jorge de Mello Industry and Innovation Grant

The project “RECELDERMIS – Advancing 3D Skin Models with Rabbit Derived Dermis for Scalable In Vitro Screening”, led by the Biomaterials and Biomedical Technology group at the Centre of Biotechnology and Fine Chemistry (CBQF), has been selected as one of the five finalists for the Jorge de Mello Industry and Innovation Grant, out of 55 eligible proposals.

The initiative results from a collaboration between researchers Ana Leite Oliveira, Viviana Pinto Ribeiro, and Marta Rosadas (CBQF), Alda Sousa (Cortadoria Nacional do Pêlo), and Brigitte Onteniente (Phenocell AXOL, France). It aims to develop more ethical and scalable 3D skin models for in vitro testing.

According to Ana Leite Oliveira, “this recognition reflects not only the quality of research at CBQF, but also the value of partnerships with industry in creating solutions with real-world impact.”

The project's nomination as a finalist reinforces the commitment of the Escola Superior de Biotecnologia and CBQF to collaborative innovation, applied science, and the promotion of more sustainable and ethical practices in the development of new products and technologies.

The Jorge de Mello Industry and Innovation Grant has established itself as an incentive for applied research in Portugal, promoting direct collaboration between academia and the business sector.
