Católica's Porto campus is hosting a European week on the future of heritage

The T4EU European Common Heritage Week has begun at Universidade Católica Portuguesa and will run until 20 March at its Porto campus, in partnership with Transform4Europe (T4EU).

“Católica, through the networked collaboration of the various university communities within T4EU – students, lecturers, researchers and technical staff – provides the T4EU cultural community and GLAM stakeholders – public, private and voluntary sector organisations – in Porto with a platform and opportunities for interaction and the sharing of knowledge and experiences,” emphasises the Director of T4EU at the Universidade Católica, Francisco Mendes Palma.

Also taking place this week is the annual T4EU conference on Sustainable Heritage, held in conjunction with EPoCH2026, an annual international research conference dedicated to Heritage and Conservation-Restoration organised by the Centre for Research in Arts Science and Technology at Católica.

Offering a unique platform to explore critical reflections and experimental practices in conservation-restoration and heritage studies within the European context, this scientific conference will feature keynote speakers Cornelius Holtorf from Linnaeus University (UNESCO), Paulo Lourenço from the University of Minho, and Roberta Altin from the University of Trieste.

Academic outreach begins precisely when the university steps outside its usual confines and engages in dialogue with society. By bringing together students, researchers, cultural professionals and the city’s institutions, this initiative transforms heritage into a shared space for encounter and experimentation,” notes Sara Magno, Outreach Officer at Católica for T4EU.

From the care of materials to digital memory, from traditions at risk of extinction to emerging sustainable solutions and cultural forms, thanks to the breadth of activities, the T4EU European Week of Shared Heritage will challenge us to analyse evolving scenarios and imagine new configurations of practice, ethics and responsibility – on the threshold of change.
