Católica receives Manuela Veloso for Conference on Artificial Intelligence

Manuela Veloso is one of the world references in Artificial Intelligence and since 2018 she has been director of the Artificial Intelligence Research Center at J.P. Morgan, the largest US bank with 250,000 employees worldwide.

Manuela Veloso has made a career as a professor and researcher at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), having written more than 300 publications with her students and oriented more than 40 PhD students, with whom she developed new algorithms for planning and automation of intelligent mobile robots.

At the conference held at UCP on the afternoon of February 6, Manuela Veloso spoke about her professional career, the challenges of research she has been developing presenting concepts such as "symbiotic autonomy", in which robots ask for help to overcome their limitations, learning from the feedback received.

She also presented some of her main projects for the current position at J. P. Morgan, namely the "eye gase tracking" system, applied in situations where management decisions are based on images.

In the celebrations of the National Day of UCP 2020, on February 7, the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa was awarded to Manuela Veloso.
