Católica launches new Degree in Applied Data Science

The Bachelor's Degree in Applied Data Science is the most recent degree of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa. Taught by the Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences, in the Braga Regional Centre, this degree completes the training offer of the Católica, with applications already open for the next academic year.

With this launch, the university intends to respond to the growing demand for professionals specialized in the fields of Big Data, Artificial Intelligence or Data science, able to design and implement efficient algorithms.

Oriented towards data analysis and problem solving, the course is divided into two essential components: the first two years are dedicated to the acquisition of the indispensable skills in computing and data analysis. The third year aims to apply these skills to specific domains through curricular units of particular interest to the students.

A versatile and up-to-date training, which may be applied to the most varied fields, from social, human and behavioural sciences to medicine, management, law and biotechnology. The course results from the synergy of knowledge of Católica, with contributions from the Faculty of Biotechnology, the School of Arts and the Católica Porto Business School.

Data scientist, data engineer, big data analyst, artificial intelligence systems specialist and machine learning specialist are some of the possible functions of future graduates, who may work in the most diverse sectors of activities, from Banking to Telecommunications and Pharmaceuticals.
