Católica joins Iberian FoodTec Lab consortium
Universidade Católica Portuguesa is one of the promoting partners of the Iberian FoodTec Lab (IFL), an Iberian laboratory in the food area. Isabel Capeloa Gil, President of UCP, participated in the signing of the memorandum of understanding for the creation of IFL, on November 4, in Braga.
“At a time of emergency, science will improve the quality of food systems and contribute to a more sustainable world,” highlights Isabel Capeloa Gil.
The IFL aims to promote multidisciplinary research initiatives, prepare diagnoses on the food situation in Portugal and Spain, contribute to the development and implementation of public policies, encourage the exchange of experiences and collaboration between academic institutions, companies and international organisations, and promote equitable and healthy sustainable food.
The memorandum of understanding for the creation of the Laboratory was signed by the Prime Minister, António Costa, and the President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, during the 33rd Luso-Spanish Summit. The signing ceremony was attended by the Portuguese and Spanish Ministers for Science, Technology and Higher Education, Elvira Fortunato and Diana Morant, the Minister for Territorial Cohesion, Ana Abrunhosa, and the Secretary of State for Regional Development, Isabel Ferreira.
In addition to the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, the consortium brings together the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança, the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory, the University of Vigo, the University of Salamanca, the University of Valladolid, the University of Minho, the University of Porto, the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro and the Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo.
