Cardinal Tolentino Mendonça appointed Prefect of the Dicastery for Culture and Education of the Holy See

Cardinal José Tolentino de Mendonça, vice-rector of Católica between 2012 and 2018, was appointed Prefect of the Dicastery for Culture and Education of the Holy See where he will be responsible for all levels of Catholic Education in the world, from basic to higher education.

Isabel Capeloa Gil, President of Universidade Católica Portuguesa, congratulates the Cardinal on this nomination: "It is with great pride that the Universidade Católica has received the news of the appointment of His Eminence, Cardinal José Tolentino Mendonça, as the new Prefect of the Dicastery for Culture and Education of the Holy See. Distinguished intellectual and academic, the appointment of Cardinal Tolentino Mendonça is an important sign of transformation in a decisive field for the affirmation of more cohesive societies, especially in the face of the threats and violent contradictions of our present. On this occasion, I also want to affirm the recognition of the UCP towards the leadership of the outgoing Prefect, Cardinal Giuseppe Versaldi, as well as towards Archbishop Vincenzo Zanni, who with insight and attention followed Catholic teaching in recent decades."
