Artist's Take on the Future of Tech. A T4EU Conversation on the Invisible

In the twenty-fourth episode of the Transform4Europe podcast “Reach Out”, Viktoras Bachmetjevas, professor at Vytautas Magnus University, in Lithuania, and Zach Blas, artist and theorist from the United States of America, explore the complex relationship between digital life and the critique of technology.

The experts explore how current digital tools shape our understanding of freedom, privacy, and identity in an increasingly automated world.

Recorded during Zach’s residency at VMU Faculty of Arts through Transform4Europe Alliance visiting professorship programme, this conversation covers several key themes, including the growing role of surveillance technology in our daily lives, the dual nature of algorithms as both tools and invisible controllers, and the role of art in deciphering technological hegemony and preserving human agency.

Viktoras Bachmetjevas’ academic work focuses on philosophy and critical dialogue, and Zach Blas, is a visual studies scholar and artist whose work has been showcased at major global institutions, including Tate Modern and the Whitney Biennial. Together, the experts analyze the intersection of media art, queer theory, and modern technology.
