Faculty and researchers from the four campi of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa - Lisbon, Porto, Braga, and Viseu - participated in the Conference "All-Hands Call: Innovating for Future Skills at UCP", organized by CLIL | Católica Learning Innovation Lab, at the Regional Centre of Porto. This event allowed reflection on the pedagogical innovation theme within the University's academic community. It was attended by Pedro Nuno Teixeira, Secretary of State for Science, Technology and Higher Education, Isabel Capeloa Gil, Rector of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, and Diana Soares, coordinator of the Católica Learning Innovation Lab.
In his speech, Pedro Nuno Teixeira, Secretary of State for Science, Technology and Higher Education, reflected on the main lines for the future of Higher Education in developing fundamental skills such as integrated systemic thinking and critical thinking, analytical thinking, cultural agility and applied and focused creativity. He also highlighted the importance of this type of initiative, as they provide the faculty community with moments of reflection on their pedagogical practices. Another aspect highlighted by Pedro Nuno Teixeira was the importance of integrating the students into this process.
Isabel Capeloa Gil stressed the importance of all the work that is being developed by the community and by the Católica Learning Innovation Lab in the diagnosis, reflection, and sharing of knowledge in the area of pedagogical innovation and its articulation with other strategic initiatives of the University, such as CATCH, led by Vice-Rector Isabel Vasconcelos, who was also present at the event.
Taking advantage of the motto given by the Secretary of State for Science, Technology and Higher Education on the key competencies that higher education students should develop, a round table discussion followed, moderated by Sílvia Monteiro from the University of Minho.
Paulo Gaspar, from Deloitte and Otília Castro, from the Education Department of Porto City Hall, participated in this space as representatives of CLIL's strategic partners. In addition, the UCP faculty Marta Portocarrero and the student Sofia Lopes represented the academic community of UCP.
In the presentation entitled "Digitalization and Learning Innovation in Higher Education, " Palitha Edirisingha from the University of Leicester shared some possible approaches to introducing pedagogical innovation in higher education.
Next, Paulo Dias, from the coordination team of the project "Skills 4 Post-COVID - Competences for the Future in Higher Education", and Amanda Franco, a researcher at CLIL, explained the CLIL project and announced the launching of the UCP 1st Cycle of Pedagogical Workshops. They also revealed the following initiatives of the project, namely the Communities of Learning and Practice and the second phase of the study "Mapping of Teaching Practices at the UCP," the latter aimed at faculty members teaching a course unit in a Master's degree.
The Conference was closed by Isabel Braga Cruz, Pro-Rector of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, and José Lopes, Director of the Faculdade de Filosofia e Ciências Sociais of UCP.
