Having completed the first year of the multidisciplinary Double Degree in Law and Management, I have the privilege of holding the competitive advantage inherent to this programme — graduating in two highly complementary fields. Owing to the breadth of technical competences, the programme provided me with a broader knowledge base and different methodological approaches, allowing me to respond quickly and effectively to problems — a capability increasingly valued in the job market.
The programme encourages students to participate in international mobility experiences, which foster the development of several soft skills, particularly adaptability. Through the Erasmus programme, I had the opportunity to study for a semester at a university with a globally recognised reputation for excellence (the University of Antwerp), while also travelling across much of Europe.
The programme also offers various collaborations with external entities aimed at rewarding its top students. Having received an award granted by the University in partnership with PwC, I completed a one-week internship at PwC Malta, which provided me with a first contact with the professional world and with a legal team in an international environment.
Although the programme is known for its high level of demand, the academic staff have always shown unconditional support — which continues even after the completion of the degrees — and this will undoubtedly be a crucial factor in the success of the students.
Career opportunities for graduates holding both a Law and a Management degree are extensive, as they encompass all those offered by either degree. This is particularly true in consultancy firms and law firms, which increasingly seek distinctive profiles and innovative perspectives within their teams.
The Double Degree allowed me to combine knowledge of legal reasoning and regulation with the know-how of the management world. Alongside the study of Law, exposure to markets and the development of strategic thinking — typical of a manager — has made me a more complete professional and, above all, a problem solver.
The academic staff, committed to training professionals of excellence, demonstrate not only deep knowledge of the subjects they teach, but also great dedication to students, seeking to understand and support each one’s development. I completed an Erasmus mobility period at the prestigious Università Commerciale Luigi Bocconi, where I felt proud to be a student of Universidade Católica Portuguesa, given the recognition accorded to our institution.
At the end of the programme, I had the honour of being invited to undertake my professional traineeship at Uría Menéndez – Proença de Carvalho, the law firm where I am currently based and where the excellence of the training I received at Universidade Católica Portuguesa is evident every day.
I believe the Double Degree in Law and Management is extremely well structured, both in terms of the subjects taught and their complementarity. The academic staff who accompanied us throughout the programme — all of recognised excellence — were essential to its successful completion.
It is also worth highlighting that the programme’s compatibility with the Erasmus/international mobility experience is a major asset for the academic and personal development of the many students who choose to embrace this international opportunity.
Overall, the job market has shown great openness towards graduates of this programme, demonstrating interest in understanding their profile and, in many cases, expressing willingness to hire. I believe this programme — now in its sixth year and a pioneer in Portugal — equips students, among other competences, with exceptional critical thinking, initiative, work capacity and adaptability, all of which are highly valued in the professional world.
Without a doubt, choosing this Double Degree programme was the right decision.
I am convinced that, with this training, we will have professionals who are better prepared to understand clients’ problems and needs and, therefore, more capable of finding the appropriate solutions.
Versatility, integrity, critical thinking, resilience, openness to the world, cultural awareness, creativity and emotional intelligence, as well as the ability to work effectively in a team — these are the qualities I expect from graduates of the Double Degree in Law and Management at Católica in Porto.
The Double Degree will equip students with unique competences for their integration into the job market. Learning the fundamental concepts of Law and Management together will foster significant synergies.
With this Double Degree in Law and Management, the Porto Regional Centre of Universidade Católica introduces a new element of innovation and differentiation. The programme will greatly enrich the students’ foundational training, enhancing versatility and multifunctionality. Without question, it broadens and strengthens career opportunities.
