In a rapidly changing global context, marked by geopolitical tensions, cultural challenges, and technological advancements, scientific research is called upon to play an increasingly active role in understanding and defending the fundamental values of contemporary societies.
The intersection of research, culture, and defence raises essential questions about academic responsibility, the preservation of cultural heritage, and the contribution of scientific knowledge to the security and resilience of communities. In this context, it is important to reflect on the role of higher education institutions in promoting research that is aware, ethical, and socially relevant.
Researchers from UCP will discuss these issues at the VIII CARE Meeting, under the title “Research, Culture and Defence”, which will take place on the Lisbon campus on July 8, 2026.
At the end of the meeting, there will also be an open discussion session for all participants, aimed at jointly developing perspectives on the role of research in current and future challenges.
This event is exclusive to faculty members, researchers, and doctoral and postdoctoral students of Universidade Católica Portuguesa.
The program will be featuring:
- Isabel Capeloa Gil - Reitora da Universidade Católica Portuguesa
- Peter Hanenberg - Vice-Reitor para a Investigação e Educação Doutoral
